Service Description
IT IS PREFERRED THAT PARTICIPANTS PARTICIPATE IN ALL 6 DAYS! We’ll focus on one theme each day, getting to better know ourselves, each other, and the more-than-human world all around us. We’ll find the tracks and signs that animals leave behind, and follow their trails to the most magical secret spots on the landscape. We’ll listen to the language of the birds as they tell us what is happening on the land, unseen by most humans. Are there predators? Maybe we’ll get to see them if we listen… We’ll get in touch with the many gifts of the trees, from building fire to shelter. We’ll meet (and taste) some of our plant allies, many that can be used for food and medicine. We’ll explore together the landscape, remembering how to stay found(rather than get lost), and how to be still, becoming more than a visitor to a place, but a part of it. We’ll work with the most important wilderness survival skills there are: listening to each other, keeping an upright mind, and forming a community together. And HOW will we do these things? In the most human ways possible: through lots of GAMES, STORIES, and the almost-lost-art of LISTENING. We’ll be listening to each other, yes, but we’ll also be listening to the land, which gives away its secrets to those willing to use their ears to hear the bird calls, eyes to read the animal trails, noses to smell the plant foods, hands to build the fire, and hearts to hear each other. Rain or shine, dress for the forecast! Bring enough food and water for the whole day: Lunch + a snack, at least 1.5 Liters of water Wear closed-toe shoes (like sneakers) Have a rain jacket in your backpack! Bring a backpack! Journal/notebook and pen or pencil
